Activatable lithium thionylchloride reserve batteries for applications in electronic fuzes for artillery and naval gun ammunition. Description: Lithium thionylchloride systems (Li/SOCI2) are distinguished by extremely high energy density. The cells of the battery are embedded in a stainless steel case and the cell stack is rotationsymmetrically arranged in the container. In the center of the battery case a glass ampoule filled with electrolyte is located, which is broken by different release mechanisms, depending on the respective system acceleration. Operating mode: The battery is activated by breaking the ampoule affected by g-load (min. 1000 g). By releasing The electrolyte and wetting the battery cells electrochemical reaction proceeds and the Battery delivers energy.
