Server Hardware Specifications (Technical Requirements)
1. Processor (CPU):
Cores/Threads: 16 cores / 32 threads minimum.
Purpose: To handle intensive parallel workloads (virtualization, databases, containers, etc. ).
2. Memory (RAM):
Capacity: 64 GB minimum.
Note: This is specified as the minimum comfortable baseline for the intended workload. Higher capacity or future expandability is preferred.
3. Boot Storage (Operating System):
Configuration: Hardware RAID 1 (Mirror) or equivalent software mirroring (ZFS mirror).
Drives: 2 × 480 GB SSDs (SATA or SAS).
Purpose: OS installation with redundancy for high availability.
4. Primary Data Storage:
Configuration: Mirrored (RAID 1) using ZFS (preferred) or hardware RAID 1.
Drives: 2 × 3.84 TB NVMe SSDs (Enterprise-grade, with high DWPD/TBW).
Rationale: This configuration provides an optimal balance of high capacity, extreme I/O performance, and data integrity through ZFS features (snapshots, checksum, compression).
5. Network Interfaces:
Primary Uplink: 1 × 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) port (SFP+ or RJ45).
Secondary/Management Port: 1 × 1 Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE) port.
Justification: This combination is noted as "the most correct" setup&10GbE for high-throughput data/storage traffic and 1GbE for management/backup/out-of-band access.
6. General Notes:
The overall configuration is designed to be balanced in both capacity and I/O performance.
All components must be enterprise-grade suitable for 24/7 operation.
Vendor should provide detailed compatibility matrix and support statement for the proposed configuration (especially regarding ZFS if using a non-standard OS).
