The breast stroke training aid serves as an instructional tool for children to earn the correct leg movement in breast stroke swimming. The system consistes of a nylon waistbelt (50mm wide, 100cm long) with a plastic buckle (59mm X 84mm) for closing and adjustment. Metalrings (30mm) are attached on both sides of the belt at a distance of 45cm from the belt's start.
Around the thighs, just above the knees, loops made of Velcrocable connectors (55cm long) with metal rings (30mm) are attached on the outside. Similarloops (40cm long) with metal rings (30mm) are placed around the balls of the feet. Round elastic rubber bands (4mm thick, 50cm long) connect the waistbelt to the knee loops. Additional bands run from the lower rings of the knee loops to the rings on the foot loops. The tension of the rubber bands can be adjusted using plastic cable tensioners.
This construction serves two important functions: First, the elastic connections between the waistbelt and knee loops provide a light up and outward pull. This positions the legs in a lightly spread stance, similar to the correct breast stroke kick position. When pulling the legs back, children feel resistance that activated courages them to return to the good starting position. Second, the additional rubber bands from the knee to foot loops ensure that the shoes naturally point up and out. The placement of the rings on the outside of the foot loops prevents the feet from turning inward and keep them in the optimal position for the breast stroke kick. This effective preventschildren from unintentional switching to a flutter kick, as the tension of the bands makes correct movement patterns noticeable.
